Getting the tools

You will first start by getting two different screwdrivers (flat and Philips head) and a bit of electrical tape. As a rule of thumb, the car's battery should be disconnected for your safety and so the car does not short-circuit anything if you accidentally tap a wire.

Installing the Light

Figure out where you would like to mount your lights. A spot that is often used is behind the kicker panels of the car on either the driver or passenger side. This is the spot underneath the dashboard where you put your feet. A light can easily be tucked behind it so that the light can still be seen, but not kicked by feet when sitting in the vehicle.

Connecting the Wires

Buy an extra wire long enough to run from the car's battery underneath the hood into the car where the lights are mounted underneath the dashboard. Stretch this wire so it reaches the battery from the dashboard beforehand to make sure it is long enough. The proper way to go about this is by feeding the wire through the car's firewall, located along the wall that separates the engine bay from the car interior. Look for other wires running through the firewall.
